Do You use a Hoop??

Another strip on my Some Kind of Wonderful quilt today. These blocks should have been done in March and April...but I am getting close to being caught up! All the fabrics that I have used so far are just a mix from my stash and are all my favourites...some I have hated cutting into!

As I had to do quite a bit of speed stitching to catch up, I decided to ditch my embroidery hoop that I have always used and try back stitching without one. It sure is a lot quicker and the fabric didn't pucker, which was the problem when I first began to do hand embroidery.

Do you use a hoop for your hand embroidery work?
Would love to hear your thoughts on hoops!

Your SKOW is looking beautiful. You will love it even more with your favourite fabrics in it. I do use a hoop for stitcheries but not for appliqué. And always have my trusty thimble too.

I do use a hoop when I am doing my cross-stitch or just one layer (nothing on the back) .. when I use pellon or parlay on the back of my fabric, I find that is enough stabiliser that I don't need it.

Your blocks look amazing together!!! Bet it feels good to be almost all caught up!!

I can't embroider or hand quilt without a hoop! Let me re-word that..I can't embroider or hand quilt and do a good job without a hoop! Take care!

Love your progress! I'm excited to find the SKoW book available here on Amazon.com. I embroider both ways, but much easier without hoop when there is a backing or stabilizer. Yay! You are almost caught up!!

Usually I don't use a hoop but I expect my stitching would be much neater if i did use one. I almost always use a hoop for quilting. Well done on the catching up, it is looking good.

I don't use a hoop. I find them annoying. Your quilt is looking lovely.

G'day Lisa. That quilt is just stunning. I too hate cutting up some fabrics. I bought a Layer Cake some time ago from the Internet and the note that came with it said "The first cut is the hardest" How very true. I have always used a hoop, though have done a few small things without one. Once I start a stitching project with the hoop, I prefer to keep using it, mainly for the tension it gives me. Take care. Your quilt looks beautiful so far! I prefer not to use a hoop but my stitching always looks better when I do use one, not that I do a lot of stitching these days.

That is so funny, I've had the same experience. Never could embroider without hoop until only a few weeks ago I made a needle case. It was too small to put in hoop so had to go without. Surprise, surprise, was really happy with my stitching and, so much faster. Thinking I'll ditch the hoop a bit more often.

Loving your quilt, xxx

I've never used a hoop to embroider or applique I find the stabiliser I iron to the back is enough to create an even stitching for me.I love how your quilt top is looking, love the fabric choices you've made :) Barb.

your quilt looks lovely. I dont use a hoop either and I am quite happy with my handstitching, I just need more time. 5 weeks of school left then I will have two months...coming to Australia and will have 22 hours of flying time to stitch! Yippee...cant wait to see the land Down Under! LOL
